The port is located on a beautiful scenery of forest hills, with the setting of the Osa Peninsula visible in the distance. These hills dorm part of the Golfito National Refuge of Wild Fauna.
Near the city, Playas de Cacao and Puntarenitas which you can get to by boat, are frequently visited. On the other side of Coto Colorado river are the Zancudo and Pavones beaches, suitable for surfing. Zancudo beach is very  long, thin black sand beach situated 15 km to the south of Golfito, between the pacific and the mouth of the Colorado River. Due to its good quality fishing and swimming facilities and surfing initiation, it is very frequented by foreigners and locals during the dry season.
