Welcome to Golfito.Biz your official site to Golfito, in the Southern Costa Rica. Golfito is the Head of the canton of Golfito, is at 341 km from San José and 41 km from Ciudad Neily. As its name indicates, Golfito is a small creek inside the Golfo Dulce, and this one is formed between the Osa peninsula and Punta Banco, bound for the Panamanian border. The port is located on a beautiful scenery of forest hills, with the setting of the Osa Peninsula visible in the distance. These hills dorm part of the Golfito National Refuge of Wild Fauna. Near the city, Playas de Cacao and Puntarenitas which you can get to by boat, are frequently visited. On the other side of Coto Colorado river are the Zancudo and Pavones beaches, suitable for surfing. Zancudo beach is very long, thin black sand beach situated 15 km to the south of Golfito, between the pacific and the mouth of the Colorado River. Due to its good quality fishing and swimming facilities and surfing initiation, it is very frequented by foreigners and locals during the dry season. There are several Hotels and Restaurants, in the north sector is the airport and the free port and the large center of stores full of appliances, electric devices and imported goods. In 1990 Golfito was declared Free port by the Costa Rica Government. |
